Formula Masts is chosen by yacht owners, designers and naval architects for bespoke projects that require advanced engineering knowledge and skills coupled with beautiful aesthetics. We have produced spars for many unique large yachts and classic yachts alike, alongside square rigged sailing vessels and antennae for state of the art motor yachts.
Seajoy is a classic three masted schooner built in 1976. The current owners wanted to upgrade the yacht without compromising her classic looks and authentic original feel. They wanted state of the art push button sail handling on a classic sailing yacht.
Formula built three new masts and three new booms integrating advanced technical systems without compromising the yacht’s classic looks. One unique feature was a 160mm tubular vent running the entire 26m of the aft mast to give ventilation for the yacht’s original oil fired boiler keeping smoke and emissions aloft and away from sails, deck and crew. This was a technically challenging design fitting the ‘chimney’ into a mast with advanced hydraulic sail handling systems.
Booms and masts provided another challenge fitting the Harken CT2 tensioners required for the captive winch system. The Harken captive winch system requires the sail handling lines to be kept under constant tension which meant integrating the CT2 tensioners into the spar design.
The booms were finished with a hand painted wood finish look ensuring that they fitted with the classic looks of the yacht.
